Wood Wide Web

“So listen and hear the voices of the trees, because to ‘listen’ is to touch the stethoscope to the skin of the landscape, to hear what stirs below”.

The Wood Wide Web is a story about connection. It is natures internet, where trees talk to each other underground. They are passing information and resources through a network of mycorrhizal fungi. Beeldjutters created a video-mapping on an old oak tree, which visualises this wonderland, a world of symbiotic and synergistic relationships.

Wood Wide Web was first presented as a performance, in cooperation with Australian based musicians Linsey Pollak and Lizzie O’Keefe, and storyteller, maker and initiator Maureen Baas from Metaal Kathedraal. The projections on the old oak tree are now placed as a permanent installation and can be visited at the old graveyard of Metaal Kathedraal.
